Printing, more particularly, mono printing is a time of being in the studio that allows the creative process to dictate the outcome. The print medium forces me to let go. It is for this reason that I often experiment by layering, abstracting and using my paint surfaces in an unstructured way. The process of painting onto a Perspex surface and then printing onto paper produces infinite possibilities that I have little control over. Often what I learn through the printing process I refer back to my oil painting as the immediacy and spontaneity is what excites me. The layering process is achieved by introducing chine collé or using more than one plate when printing. It is a dynamic and liberating area of my art practice.
